It has come to our attention that a few days ago international criminals; possibly from India; have started to fake their Caller ID using our telephone number in a mass solicitation of scams on people across the United States. These criminals are attempting to fool people into believing that they are legitimate technical support representatives, sometimes saying they are from Microsoft or other legitimate establishments such as our own.
If you have received a call from our number, 707-570-2040, and are not a customer of Santa Rosa Computers, operating in the Northern San Francisco Bay Area (Sonoma County) in California, then it is likely that you received a call from the criminal organization in an attempt to scam you.
We ask that you do not attempt to call this telephone number back, as the calls do not route to the scammers, but instead route to our small business, disrupting our daily function with hundreds of calls per hour. We understand that these calls are very disruptive to you, and often threatening. We are not responsible for these calls, they are not originating from our establishment, they are simply masquerading their Caller ID with our phone number.
DO NOT give access to your computer or financial details such as credit cards or bank account numbers to these individuals. Santa Rosa Computers will never solicit access to your computer or for your financial details. HANG UP if these people call you and ignore them, they will give up eventually.
If you have already given these criminals access to your computer or any financial details, you have been a victim of a scam.
You can report this activity to:
FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center @ https://www.ic3.gov/
Federal Trade Commission @ https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/
You can also attempt to help us stop these criminals by contacting your telephone provider to attempt to have them find the source of these telephone calls using spoofed/faked Caller ID.
